Letter of Support

From: Deborah Genz
Subject: Lingle Picnic
Mr. Winney,
Thank you for coming to Lingle. My goal was to see for myself who wants to run the show & why they want to run it. I'm sure the turnout was a disappointment to you and your lovely wife, I know it was for me. I can only say people missed a wonderful opportunity. Actually, intend to do just that in a letter to the editor of the Torrington newspaper.
My purpose for writing is to let you know that coming to Lingle was not a waste of your time. You see, I had another event I wanted to attend. I managed to make the last hour of the Goshen County Master Gardener's Day. I intended to gather as much information as I could about how to make things grow well on this high prairie, as I'm not from here and am ignorant on such things. I say, my intention. As soon as it became known I had been to the picnic, my time was spent answering questions.
The 2nd event had waned, only 30 or so remained. Of those 30, a dozen are longtime/lifelong residents with many contacts and of some influence in this area. The mere fact that you attended the Lingle event and the incumbent didn't even bother to respond to the invitation carried it's own weight. I could not speak on your behalf, but could share the fliers and give my opinion. Which, I did.
I attended alone, but represented a few more. My husband, his partner, partner's wife and registered college son, the company receptionist and my next door neighbor. I had the added (bonus?) of being interrogated by others who did not attend, did not meet you for themselves. I can only pull one lever. Those close to me tend to trust my opinion, the rest merely heard it, but what they heard was sincere.
I will tell you what I have to say about the matter to others: This is politics. I went seeking the lesser of two evils. I didn't hear or see evil. What showed up is an Eagle Scout.
Thank you again, for coming. I hope you will be in attendance for the next one. May the crowd be so big I have no chance for face to face to tease you about submariner commanders being a little bit crazy. And, may you not be so big as to forget that one person in attendance doesn't always mean just one vote.
Best of luck,
Deborah Genz
